Unique Properties

Epsy was designed to empower individuals with epilepsy. Through translating extensive research into an intuitive platform for tracking seizures and medication, several unique features were developed from seizure and medication tracking and insights to custom accessibility tools, such as tailored motion and notification controls for users with photosensitivity, ensuring unparalleled inclusivity.

Production Technology

Epsy's design was born from extensive user research and an iterative, collaborative process, across both iOS and Android mobile platforms. Wireframes were refined through workshops with cross-functional teams, and accessibility was prioritized at every step, with metric-driven improvements ensuring continuous enhancement, leading to market-leading retention.

Design Challenge

Designing Epsy's UI for users with seizure conditions presented unique challenges beyond standard accessibility. The creative challenge involved balancing vibrant design, loved by users, with seizure-safe layouts and interaction patterns, and accommodating cognitive impairments like memory loss. Internal factors included understanding epilepsy's impact on UX, while external factors like evolving accessibility guidelines and technological capabilities influenced development.

Operation Flow

Epsy transforms how people live with epilepsy. Beyond simple medication reminders, it lets users log seizures, side effects, and life events, turning scattered data into clear, actionable insights. With tailored educational resources and articles, Epsy empowers patients to understand their condition, advocate confidently in appointments, and make informed choices about their care. By helping people track, learn, and reflect, Epsy gives users the tools to reclaim control of their lives.

Research

Epsy's design research involved extensive user interviews, surveys, usability testing, and user feedback analysis to understand epilepsy's impact on users, such as a survey answered by over 1,100 users. Also including workshops and metric tracking, we generated key insights used to address accessibility challenges including cognitive impairments, resulting in features like custom motion controls and seizure-safe patterns, ensuring a safer, more intuitive, and ultimately better product.

Inspiration

We saw a critical gap in how people with epilepsy reach their optimal treatment. Too often, patients lacked clear, reliable data to share with their doctors, slowing adjustments and preventing them from getting the best care quickly. This version of Epsy was built to close that gap. Informed by hundreds of patient interviews, we focused on giving people an intuitive way to track seizures and medication, while prioritizing accessibility and usability for all.

Epsy Mobile App has been a Silver winner in the Mobile Technologies, Applications and Software Design award category in the year 2025 organized by the prestigious A' Design Award & Competition.
