Yebuna Coffee's design bridges Ethiopia's heritage with modern clarity. The logo, framed by parentheses, symbolizes coffee's transformative journey, while bold typography asserts confidence. Vivid colors inspired by African landscapes distinguish each blend and evoke emotion. The packaging unites culture, function, and storytelling, offering a product identity that is both memorable and deeply rooted in tradition.

The packaging is made from durable, resealable coffee bags designed to preserve freshness. Advanced printing techniques allow for precise gradients and rich, vibrant tones that echo African scenery. Digital design processes were used to refine typography and the symbolic logo, ensuring clarity and impact. The result is a balance of strong visual identity and practical functionality, optimized for consumer use.
The primary challenge was expressing Ethiopia's coffee legacy in a contemporary and globally appealing way. Balancing cultural authenticity with modern aesthetics required sensitivity to avoid cliches. External constraints such as sustainable materials, print limitations, and production feasibility shaped key decisions. Overcoming these obstacles led to a design that celebrates tradition while presenting a bold, competitive brand identity for today’s market.
The project started in December 2023 in Athens and finished in April 2024 in Athens
The design ensures ease of use through resealable, airtight structures that maintain product quality. Large vertical typography enhances visibility on shelves, while bold colors clearly differentiate each variety. Interaction is intuitive, helping consumers quickly identify blends. Beyond function, the design conveys narrative and emotion, inviting users to connect with coffee’s origins while enjoying a refined product experience.
This project stems from cultural and visual research into Ethiopia's coffee heritage. Objectives included creating a brand that reflects authenticity and global relevance. The methodology combined ethnographic insights, language study, and visual testing of typography and color. Iterations ensured clarity and impact. Results confirmed that consumers resonate with its emotional and cultural depth, making it more than packaging, an identity rooted in heritage.
The project draws inspiration from Ethiopia, the birthplace of coffee, where culture and ritual are inseparable from daily life. The Amharic word Yebuna embodies authenticity, while the natural landscapes of rivers, mountains, and sunsets shaped the visual language. The aim was to design packaging that does not merely contain coffee but reflects its heritage, joy, and universal role in connecting people.
