Type Design for Evleen Huang

Primary Residence is an alphabet design that represents abstract architectural forms in typography with three primary colors: red, blue, and yellow. The inspiration originally came from the Bauhaus movement. That was also inspired by the design of stairs and windows from different parts of the world. Each letter and number represents a small part of the buildings without any apparent entry or existence. The stairs, windows, and geometric shapes are dedicated to the Bauhaus architectural style and minimalism, with the primary goal of blending the form and identities of the structure together.

Unique Properties

Primary Residence is an alphabet design that represents minimal architectural forms in typography with three primary colors: red, blue, and yellow. Each letter and number represents a small part of the buildings without any apparent entry or existence. You may look at it with your own imagination to find the way in or out. You could even find connections from one character to the next. The stairs, windows, and geometric shapes are dedicated to the Bauhaus architectural style and minimalism, with the primary goal of blending the form and identities of the structure together.

Started the sketches on paper, based on real architecture photography.

The challenge of this project is finding ways to incorporate different elements of architectural forms with letters while making them look consistent and abstract.

This project started in March 2020 in New Jersey.

Operation Flow

This archetype style helps the viewer gain a greater appreciation of the abstract building. The stairs, windows, all geometric shapes all dedicated to Bauhaus architecture and Minimalist building to blend with the form and identity of the structure.

Research

Each main element of the letter based on the research of the Bauhaus movement or the world architectures' photography.

Inspiration

The inspiration originally came from the Bauhaus Movement. Additionally, I was inspired by the design of stairs and windows from different parts of the world, like the fire escapes of old buildings in New York City and urban windows in European cities.

Project Overview

Primary Residence Type Design has been a Golden winner in the Graphics, Illustration and Visual Communication Design award category in the year 2020 organized by the prestigious A' Design Award & Competition. The Gold A' Design Award is granted to designs that demonstrate a high level of innovation and a significant impact on their intended audience. Recognized as a major achievement by the A' Design Awards, these designs are characterized by their visionary approach and the exceptional skill of their creators.
