Himalaya, the iconic Indian wellness brand wanted to add a new product to their extensive portfolio in the Personal Care bracket: Sheet Mask. Aimed at the global markets where their other products have met with success, they wished to make this offering appealing to young audiences. Himalaya and Elephant Design worked together to develop a cohesive packaging system that encapsulated 5 variants, presented in a highly accessible manner for the target audience while retaining Himalaya's core elements.

Himalaya & Elephant Design worked together to develop a cohesive packaging system that encapsulated 5 variants, presented in a highly accessible manner for the target audience while retaining Himalaya's core elements

The sachet packaging is printed using CMYK & White & 4 special pantone colors. The brand logo and image are finished a Spot UV gloss while the remaining surface has a matte finish.
Since this was the launch of a new product by Himalaya in a cluttered market, the design needed to make the product stand out. The design had to showcase expertise in quality of the product as well as appeal to the young consumer. As the product was to be launched globally, the design agency had to ensure that no cultures were alienated.
The project started in September 2019 and finished in December 2020, in Singapore & India.
The packaging targets young, evolved consumers who believe in investing in their beauty regime and self-care. The design allows brand Himalaya to carry forward its legacy of natural wellness in a youthful contemporary manner. The illustration style manages to strike a balance between being appealing to the youth through its vibrancy as well as an expert mature look. The design is a romanticized depiction of the natural ingredients within the product.
The design agency undertook a Qualitative Design Research through in-person interviews to understand consumer perceptions & associations with Personal care category, Face sheet masks, Brand Himalaya, and other related keywords. As sheet masks are a new yet cluttered product category, it was important that the design manifests: a) Depiction of ingredients on pack make it appear more natural & fresh. b) Convey benefits upfront, and key product usage details in an easy-to-understand manner c) Engaging & vibrant packaging to attract immediate attention.
Our insights revealed that we were catering to consumers that had ritualized the process of mask application, taking it beyond skincare to create an experience beyond revitalization and self-care and turned into a social, fun, engaging moment. Thus, we invoked the idea of a ‘Zen’ time with a bright color palette, playful font and a central ‘note to self’; while retaining Himalaya’s focus on natural ingredients where the sheet mask becomes a gateway to a tranquil experience.
