The HMI of Chery E02 represents a comprehensive revolution in the automotive human machine interface. Centered on the Atomic Design, it not only integrates multiple functions such as navigation, entertainment, communication, and vehicle control but also enables drivers to enjoy a more relaxed and pleasant driving experience through a simplified interface layout, efficient interaction methods, and a smart voice assistant, creating a new ecosystem of interaction between humans and the vehicle.

The physical dimensions are larger, without physical black borders for a seamless user experience. The hierarchy design at a lower level allows all primary functions to be accessible from the top level page, enhancing driving safety by minimizing distractions. The interface utilizes small window displays for App Lists rather than full-screen displays, effectively reducing distractions while driving.
To create a concise, clear, and efficient interface, every interface element is as indispensable as an atom, with layouts as precise as mechanical parts. In the dock bar, the temperature button is positioned within the natural thumb reach of the driver, ergonomically designed for easy operation with one hand, while another temperature button is slightly offset towards the front passenger. The status bar appears prominently at the top of the screen, ensuring critical data is instantly visible.
The project was launched in March 2024 in Wuhu, Anhui, China, and is scheduled for official release on August 30, 2025.
The interface design emphasizes simplicity, usability, and consistency. Magnetic level motion effects mimic tactile feedback in the real world, like the attraction and repulsion between elements during card editing, for intuitive feedback and a smooth, natural experience. The voice assistant Xiao Qi creates a natural, friendly rapport with users, offering proactive care and interaction. It changes expressions in different states to evoke emotional resonance and a sense of belonging among users.
With the ongoing advancement of technology, modern automobiles are integrating increasingly complex infotainment systems, including navigation, entertainment, communication, vehicle control. However, their practical use often results in overwhelming interfaces and information overload, which can compromise driving safety. To address these challenges, this interface design prioritizes simplicity, usability, and consistency, delivering a more comfortable, convenient, and safe driving experience.
Based on the Atomic Design, this project simplifies visual elements and eliminates redundant information to create a concise, clear, and efficient user interface. From the aesthetic and innovation standpoint, the primary color, Glacial Blue, aligns with the identity of CHERY and the theme of HMI. The color features high visibility while minimizing visual fatigue. These features improve information retrieval efficiency and overall user experience while avoiding visual distractions.
Chery E02 Hmi Design has been a Golden winner in the Interface, Interaction and User Experience Design award category in the year 2024 organized by the prestigious A' Design Award & Competition. The Gold A' Design Award is granted to designs that demonstrate a high level of innovation and a significant impact on their intended audience.
