Bright stray is a mobile app and website that helps people support stray animals in need. It offers various resources, such as professional advice, fundraising, and a community for communication and help-seeking. The app also provides a navigation tool to find nearby shelters or organizations for relocating found strays. The project aims to create a user-friendly, intuitive app that encourages animal welfare and helps stray animals.

Bright Stray uses React Native for cross-platform mobile development, Node.js for the backend, and MongoDB for data storage. It integrates Google Maps API for location services, Stripe for payments, and Firebase for real-time features. The app employs cloud services like AWS for hosting and scalability. Development tools and software licenses comprise the main materials, with minimal physical resources required.
Designing an intuitive interface that encourages user engagement and simplifies the process of reporting and assisting strays. Implementing a reliable system for verifying reported cases to prevent misuse.
The project started in December 2023 in Dallas and finished in March.
BrightStray app operation flow: User opens app and logs in/signs up Home screen displays nearby stray animal reports and resources User can: a) Report a stray: Add location, photo, description b) Offer help: Volunteer, donate, or provide temporary care c) Seek advice: Access professional tips or community forum d) Navigate: Find nearby shelters or vet clinics Community feed shows local activities and urgent needs Users receive notifications for updates on animals they've helped Fundraising campaigns can be created and supported in-app Educational content available on animal care and welfare User profile tracks contributions and impact
This study explores the effectiveness of the BrightStray mobile application in addressing urban stray animal welfare. The research examines user engagement, animal rescue rates, and community impact across five major cities over a 12-month period.
