The graphic design of this box is in a hand drawn style, it gives the design an aged look that suits the European mythology theme more. The graphic is continuous on all sides of the box, making the packaging more intriguing to the costumers. The box is in black and white to keep the design clean and sacred.

This design is a simple top and bottom box. The packaging uses 240gsm Munken Lynx, it is a sustainable material. It is our company’s social responsibility to utilize environmental-friendly materials. This variety of paper is in a natural white shade, and it has an uncoated smooth-but-not-too-smooth surface to give it a true natural paper feel. The material of choice is perfect for this ancient theme design.
The most challenging part of this design is to create a visual that simulates looking down on earth from heaven on a box. Also, as I am a designer from Hong Kong, I am not familiar with European art style. Finding a lot of reference artwork helped me overcome these challenges.
The project started in May 2021 in Hong Kong and finished in June 2021 in Hong Kong
The product inside does not need a colorful packaging to attract customers, as its scent is already enough for customers to smell it through the box.
This design is a collaboration with a local candle brand. From their research, the target customers of this brand is between young adults to middle aged individuals. Most of the customers are cultured intellectuals who have a love in literature. Over 70% of the interviewees are willing to pay a higher price for a candle that has refreshing and stress relief property. Our high end and crisp design is based on the above research results.
As a company with 50 years of history and high quality products, Tai Tung is well-loved by European customers. Our designs are able to cater to European culture, and this design is inspired by European mythology. It is one of the first things that comes to people’s minds when talking about European culture. The design of this box depicts the gods looking for something lost from heaven and fallen to the mortal world. I put my imagination of heaven onto the design.
