This packaging is specially designed to celebrate the Year of the Loong, one of Chinese Zodiac years. It features an elegant colour scheme inspired by blue and white porcelain, exuding a refreshing and coordinated appeal. Its sleek body mirrors the contours of the pear shaped Yuhuchun vase celebrated in ancient poems, showing dynamic vitality and natural grace of curves. The vivid Loong motifs on the bottle captures the essence of Chinese culture with their distinctive patterns and colourway.
Packaging for Premium Chinese Baijiu, The Theme of the Loong, Blue and White Porcelain Culture, The Pear Shaped Yuhuchun Vase, Underglaze Technique
Treated through the sophisticated underglaze technique originating from Jingdezhen, the bottle rivals the beauty of the famed Yuhuchun vase. Its unique artistic effect evokes a rich traditional cultural ambiance. The cap is meticulously shaped like the head of the Loong, reflecting the premium quality and luxury of the packaging. The exquisite and distinctive Loong motifs on the bottle hold a universally recognized significance in Chinese Zodiac culture, symbolizing both power and prosperity.
The main challenge was to reinterpret traditional elements through modern design, all while creating visual depth and unfolding a narrative of traditional culture. In response, this packaging design not just inherits but also evolves the blue and white porcelain craftsmanship, and incorporates the theme of the Year of the Dragon, ultimately transcending the stereotypes of conventional liquor packaging. The outcome is a design with distinctive aesthetic appeal and profound cultural significance.
The design and development of this packaging started in Chengdu at the end of 2023. It was introduced to the Chinese market in January 2024.
To harmonize aesthetics with practicality, the design team has intricately adorned the bottle with original Loong motifs and outlined Chinese zodiac characters in gold, enriching the overall visual allure. The cap, shaped like the head of the Loong and coloured in gold, serves as a focal point, and elevates the opening experience into a unique and refined interaction with consumers. Modeled after the Yuhuchun vase, the bottle features a slender neck for easy handling while serving the liquor.
This packaging design bridges the gap between traditional art and the tastes of modern consumers by integrating blue and white porcelain, as well as the historical and cultural significance of the Year of the Dragon. This fusion underscores a dedication to inheriting and innovating traditional culture and Chinese Baijiu industry. To highlight the premium quality and rarity of Chinese Baijiu, two distinct packaging variations have been crafted for the 30 year aged and 50 year aged varieties.
The bottle serves not only as a liquor vessel, but also as a modern interpretation of blue and white porcelain culture. This packaging integrates elements of this renowned traditional porcelain culture, highlighting the allure and historical significance of traditional Chinese art. The inspiration from blue and white porcelain is enriched by the theme of the Year of the Dragon, adding a mysterious sense and auspicious symbolism to the packaging while celebrating the charm of traditional culture.
