Design Challenge

As it is the Mural Painting for restaurant, the concept should be avoided some symbolic meaning like blood and war issue. So the Samurai are standby or relaxing pose and are not holding any weapon on hand. Also for the consideration of the printing on uneven wall the position of Samurai should be place in the main part.

Project Duration

The project started in October 2021 and finished in November 2021 in Hong Kong, and was Shown in Five Samurai - K11 Musea Hong Kong in January 2022.

Operation Flow

Use the software to visualize the digital painting and output for Mural printing.

Research

Reference of Japanese traditional culture and the Samurai equipment such as swords, armors and helmets. The reference of the hierarchy of Generals.

Inspiration

This is a piece of art based on a concept from the name of a restaurant - "Five Samurai". The image of the Samurai, a classic Japanese warrior, is presented with a strong sense of the polarised and contradictory role in the country’s traditional culture. It implies a significant vision of power and royalty, brutality and elegance, irrationality and total obedience. The sternly presence of the samurais in the pale beauty of snow outlines the sad reality of their tragic life. The golden colour leaves in the autumn have a declining sentiment, which has successfully illustrated the short and brief glory of samurais.
