Food Packaging for A|S Strategy, Branding & Communication
The packaging masterfully blends storytelling, art, and tradition. Inspired by both the biblical narrative and Homer's Odyssey, it pays homage to the timeless tradition of sun drying figs. Vintage botanical illustrations evoke a sense of exploration and discovery, merging art and science in a nod to the notebooks of old explorers. The design celebrates nature's bounty and human ingenuity, creating a rich connection between history, heritage, and the craft of preservation. The Adam and Eve packaging combines storytelling, nature, and art, paying tribute to the ancient tradition of drying figs as first recorded in Homer’s Odyssey. The design features vintage botanical illustrations, evoking a sense of discovery and merging art with science, reminiscent of explorers' and scientists' notebooks. This unique blend of historical narrative, natural elements, and artistic expression sets the packaging apart by honouring both the fruit's ancient history and its timeless preservation.

Our production technique for the labels used CMYK, screen printing, varnish and slitter rewinder. For the bags B colours Flexo UV was used. The materials used were PP white/permanent and hot foil gold as well as cotton white/S2047N / BG45WH. The special techniques used were varnish, slitter rewinder, laminate and flexo UV. The methodologies were flexo and screen printing.
The main challenge in the Adam and Eve project was to have an idea that would make this product look really different from its vast competition. We achieved this by integrating the detailed aesthetic of Victorian-era scientific notebooks into a modern packaging design.Balancing the intricacy of hand-drawn illustrations with modern production methods posed technical difficulties, as did ensuring the packaging material was both sustainable and visually evocative of the period. Achieving a cohesive blend of vintage art and contemporary functionality was a significant creative hurdle.
The project started in January and finished in August. It hit the US markets in September.
This is a project with many variants and different operations. There is a doypack with string figs whith a seal that opens, there is a round pack protected by cling film containing crown figs, based of the traditional sun-dried fig Greek pack and there is a glass jar for fig spread which opens like a normal glass container.
There was research done by the agency's marketing department about the competition in order to see what kind of packaging exists in the Greek and international markets. The agency also looked into the kind of by-products of sun-dried figs in order to suggest to the client other products they could produce based on the figs. The research was also a design research into the packaging trends of similar products. Everything was conducted by the marketing department of the agency with the goal to differentiate the brand from its competitors in the US market.
The Adam and Eve project draws its primary inspiration from Victorian-era scientists' and explorers' notebooks, which were filled with hand-written notes and intricate sketches documenting newly discovered species of flora and fauna. These vintage journals, combining art and science, evoke a sense of discovery and exploration. The packaging design mirrors this tradition, paying homage to the natural world and the historical methods of preserving knowledge and nature’s bounty through detailed illustrations and storytelling.
