Production Technology
This work began by hand-painted ink paintings on rice-paper. Next, converted these physical artworks into digital images using a high-resolution scanner. Finally, software such as TouchDesigner is used to create dynamic movements, blending traditional painting techniques with digital generative elements to achieve an immersive installation and unique stage design for modern dance performance.
Design Challenge
The transformation of classical and contemporary ink painting mediums and techniques into postmodern digital generative video art serves as an immersive installation and stage design for a modern dance performance.
Project Duration
The project began in October 2024 in Macao and concluded in February 2025 in Shenzhen as part of the Glow Shenzhen Light Art Festival. This immersive installation and dance performance received the prestigious Gold Medal Award in the festival.

Scientists’ statistics and predictions suggest that global warming could lead to catastrophic consequences for humanity. This international environmental crisis demands collective action from individuals and countries worldwide. The immersive digital ink generative video art installation and stage design, created using digital ink, combines the distinctive texture of Chinese ink painting with the visual language of geometric abstraction and gestural abstraction to depict the transformation of a glacier from frost to flame. The transition in the color palette—from cool to warm tones—symbolizes the alarming effects of global warming. However, the re-freezing of text at the end of the video conveys a glimmer of hope, signifying the potential impact of collective global efforts. This innovative fusion of traditional ink painting with the concept of environmental consciousness propels this classical art form into the sphere of contemporary art, underscoring its relevance in the digital era.
