Production Technology

Muse Widgets and Wallpapers is developed using Swift and SwiftUI, ensuring seamless integration with iOS and optimized performance. The app utilizes Core Graphics and Core Animation to enhance visual appeal and interactivity. Each widget is crafted with a modular design system, allowing dynamic customization while maintaining consistency. Advanced UI/UX methodologies were applied to create an intuitive experience, balancing aesthetics and functionality.

Design Challenge

The biggest challenge was balancing design flexibility with ease of use. Many customization apps overwhelm users with complex settings, so we focused on pre-designed, high-quality widgets that work out of the box. Another hurdle was ensuring performance optimization - interactive elements had to be visually rich yet lightweight. Adapting to Apple’s evolving widget framework also required continuous refinement to maintain seamless functionality.

Project Duration

The project started in Odesa, Ukraine, on July 9, 2021, and is expected to be completed in Portland, OR, USA, on May 1, 2025.

Operation Flow

Muse offers a seamless and intuitive experience. Users simply select a widget type, choose a visual theme, and add it to their home screen in just a few taps - no complex customization required. Widgets are interactive, adapting to user preferences while maintaining a cohesive design. High-resolution wallpapers complement the widgets, ensuring a polished look. Muse simplifies personalization, allowing users to effortlessly create a stylish and functional home screen.

Research

This project involved user experience research focused on mobile customization behavior. The objective was to understand user preferences for widget and wallpaper personalization. We conducted surveys and usability tests with iOS users of different demographics to analyze trends. Data collection included heatmaps, A/B testing, and user feedback. Results showed a strong demand for ready-made, high-quality designs. Insights led to a seamless, pre-designed customization approach, enhancing usability and engagement.

Inspiration

The inspiration for Muse comes from the growing demand for aesthetic and effortless home screen customization. Many widget apps offer customization but require users to manually design their layouts, which can be overwhelming. We wanted to create a solution that balances creativity and simplicity - where every design is pre-crafted by professionals, ensuring a beautiful and cohesive look with minimal effort. Our approach draws from modern UI trends, giving users diverse stylistic choices.

Muse Custom Interactive Widgets has been a Iron winner in the Mobile Technologies, Applications and Software Design award category in the year 2024 organized by the prestigious A' Design Award & Competition.
