Mask for NO.ELLE
The Chained project came due to the pandemic needs but focusing in versatility and comfort. It is based on a mask with a good and different design sewn with an antiviral fabric for the base, a few nickel chains on the left side and another going around the neck. Along with a hand drawing jaw line, human teeth and a chequered pattern in a black synthetic leather for the right side of the mask. The Chained Mask project is a study made by the designer on a illustration course in London about the underground life and creations of Balenciaga in Paris Fashion Week 2020.

The essence of the project is based in a single mask design that come along with a different, innovative and creative design. Attending to the pandemic rules with focus in versatility and comfort. Is sewed with a double layer of a antiviral fabric and with a open space in the bottom of the mask to insert a third layer of protection, as a tissue or a cut piece from another surgical mask. A non-standard differential of crativity, practicality and authenticity for this design.
ergonomics, boldness, comfort, protection, fashion, style, exclusive, limited edition, made in Brazil.
The mask is sewed with a double layer of a antiviral fabric, with polyester sewing thread and a application of a hand drawing jaw line, human teeth and a chequered pattern in a synthetic leather fabric for the right side. On the left side of the mask there are two strips of nickel silver chain. There's another third strip chain that goes around the back of the mask too. The two strings that goes on the ear to hold the mask are made of chenille. Besides the fact that the mask is functional, it is also stylish and comfortable.
There was obstacles that came the development and creation of the project. Exclusively to create a design that could speak for itself to send and translate my experience at Central Saint Martins in 2017 that allied comfort, protection and my already built illustration collection inspired in the city that lives in my heart, the underground London and Balenciaga creations. Another big challenge was to sew the synthetic leather on another fabric because the leather doesn't slide easily on the sewing machine, thereby not leaving a perfect seam at first.
The project started in November 2020 in Florianópolis and finished in February 2021 in Florianópolis.
The mask is supposed to be worn on the face, one ear after the other. Can be used hanging around the neck aswell when the person is at a place where could be removed, like at a restaurant or to drink something. Protecting from viruses in general, but at the moment specially COVID-19. Every person who feel the need to wear a mask or feel uncomfortable at the enviroment that is inserted is welcome to use for your own protection.
The research is a diagnostic design because is looking to evaluate the underlying cause of a specific topic and phenomenon: the pandemic. Therefore, this project came duo to pandemic needs. Based on personal health, security and culture. Specifically made to help others and give a more fashionable air to their new day-to-day looks. About the methodology used, was the conclusive type of research because it was a well structured design with a definitive methodology that was tested and carried out to formulate hypotheses through crative thinking and internet researches. The participants of this project were essential for it to create form and life, because the results ended in a massive insight of society needs and fashion demands at the same thought and time. Is a diversified design afterall attending to the pandemic rules and aiming at commercial appeal which can be easily inserted in the market.
Eyes need to talk and scream your feelings a lot more than they used to. As the pandemic evolves, the human beings are bound to stay inside and the feeling of staying at home out of obligation is almost a prision. Being tied with a chain almost feels the same. Dead inside and tied against our will. This unique piece is a mix of the study made in Central Saint Martins - London, about the underground life, the city of London and the Balenciaga creations from Paris FW 2020 as the main inspiration.
