Chopping Board for Action Giromari
The boART cutting board is the result of a process between designer and the worker who assembles it based on a study of relations, cases and combinations of facial elements. The result is the creation of faces, expressions, and products that are always different. This dynamic creates various characteristics: the product is a unique piece, the aspect is double checked by the designer, the workers are more satisfied with their work and the company cuts costs by reusing the majority of leftover materials. The base material is Solid Surface, usually used for kitchen countertops.

Each cutting board is the result of a process between designer and the worker who assembles it based on a study of relations, cases and combinations of facial elements. The result is the combination scheme of elements that create faces, expressions, and products that are always different. This dynamic creates various characteristics: the product is a unique piece, the aspect is double checked by the designer, the workers are more satisfied with their work and the company cuts costs by re-using the majority of leftover materials (eco-sustainability). This creative approach step is absolutely new in the production process.

The base material is Solid Surface, usually used for kitchen countertops. In this case, it's whatever is left after countertops are built. This material is long lasting, easy to work and cut, bend and heat-cut and is antibacterial. This is why the cutting board was chosen. The leftover pieces were all different sizes. Three different sizes were chosen, the elements to be superimposed were obtained through vector designs. The cuts were done with a cnc milling machine. The assembly was done with food compatible glue. The material is top notch, the production process is quite economical and also very satisfying for the workers.
The biggest challenge was that of creating a process, or system able to bind together the creative processes of the product. From the designer who creates the models and preliminary designs, to the operator who assembles the product and chooses the pieces, to the final validation by the designer or art director of the company that certifies and co-signs the work.
Completed in Teramo in February 2015
The object is a small multi-use combo: when hung it is a decorative element, like a painting; when laying flat (decorative elements visible), it is an original plate or serving board that will allow you to create new and original settings for your dish; when laying flat (decorative elements turned over) it becomes a plate or surface to consume one's meal. The perforation used to hang it up is also the perfect dose measure for spaghetti for 1 person. The object may seem simple, but in reality, is a small concentrate of functionality.
In this project the research is mostly conceptual: everything is oriented to associating art with everyday life and make the maximum use and recover leftover pieces of material. The aim is to fuse the concept of art, common use instruments, and evolving lifestyles.
For this project inspiration and necessity worked in symbiosis. We reused leftover materials in a modern cubism aesthetic which allows for the use of irregular shapes and arrange them in a relatively free manner thus our image and product takes shape. We combined the elements of recycling and art and came up with a process that allows the worker to assemble it according to a general recipe given by the designer.
