Unique Properties
The visual concept of the departure gift boxes for three consecutive years is based on the natural growth law, which are sowing, flowering and fruiting, respectively. Therefore, the gift box in the third year adopts the litchi fruit, a specialty of Dongguan, Guangdong, China, as the core pattern.

Production Technology
The whole design adopts lychee fruit pattern as decoration, which has manifested in the unused place. The lateral side of the box opening is die-cut with hollow out lychee pattern. It is partly hidden and partly visible. The wooden postcard is engraved with inspirational pattern by laser, which can be taken down, crossed into three dimensional lychee pattern, and used as a pendant.
Design Challenge
The visual concepts of admission letters for the first two years are sowing youth and flowering future. As for the departure gift box for the third year, the biggest issue to find a right visual concept to continue the vision of first two years. It should also echo the coming 70th anniversary of National Day in China while maintaining the overall tone of youthful vitality and humanistic thought.
Project Duration
Started in July 2019, completed in September, completed in Dongguan, China
Operation Flow
The gift box contains letters and gifts for new students. The oneshouldered canvas bag records an atlas of the red revolutionary tourism attractions here. Students can learn about those scenic spots following the introductions and routes provided by the atlas. There are also badges, stickers, postcards, vehicle passes, etc. inside.
Research
The original admission letter for university was just a piece of paper. Whereas, we expects the design to be systematic and consistent, and to integrate more details of humanistic care. Therefore, we have thoughtfully compiled a Patriotic Inspirational Map to introduce the representative red revolution bases in Dongguan with pictures and texts, QR code positioning and map tagging, so as to achieve the readable, visible and accessible purposes.
Inspiration
The gift box of admission letter for 2019 new students of Dongguan University of Technology adopts the red Lingnan lychee as the core pattern. Each lychee is a smiling face welcoming students to Dongguan. Lychee in Chinese pronounces like Lizhi which means to encourage the young people of the new era to be patriotic, inspirational, truth-pursuing and practical, and to unite and revitalize China.
